Dallas Black Pride 2011 Highlights

Just wanted to take a moment to publicly thank everyone at Dallas Fort Worth Pride Movement for showing my models and I an incredible time. This was one of the most professional and courteous group of people that we have ever encountered. Venton Jones and Derrick Spillman have really assembled an amazing group of people. The events were top notch and more than the typical "Pride" parties. There were panel discussions, workshops, luncheons, a fashion show, a Live Show taping for the GLO Network, an Expo and much more. Many Same Gender Loving People from across the country came out to support DFWPrideMovement.org this year as they "Moved Forward."

There were opportunities to meet and greet. The opening night event at Lolita's was hot! All of the guests, such as myself, had the opportunity to meet the board of dfwpridemovement.org and many of the local Dallas guys. The evening got friendly as we all had margaritas and introductions were made.

Pornstars Rock Rockafella, Remy Mars and myself were among of a panel discussing "Barebacking in Gay Porn." There was some great information shared to the packed room of attendants. We were asked some great questions and appreciated the chance to answer some common misconceptions about pornstar, porn, barebacking, and etc.

Alternatives Bookstore also hosted Remy, Rock and I for an in store appearance. The staff at Alternatives was so kind and friendly. In though it was kinda of early in the afternoon, quite a few fans showed up to welcome us to Dallas. We took pictures and signed pictures & DVDs. Quite a few of the images ended up on Twitter and Facebook, which was very cool.

The Sunday brunch at Catfish Blues was also a highlight. The best moments always include food and great conversation. There was plenty of both as we took over the entire restaurant. We also had hoped for karaoke, but we did not get the chance.

Lastly, there were some hot parties at night. Thanks to all the venues and club promoters that booked us for appearances. I enjoyed the dancers at Exclusive and the great show featuring Pornstar Envy. Drag Superstars Raquel Lord and Tommie Ross tore the roof off with two great performances. Then Brick Nightclub had me for an appearance. The guys were packed in there. Thanks to Terrion and the crew for showing me plenty of love. The champagne was flowing all night!

Before I knew it the weekend was over! We had an amazing time and look forward to next year. Also have to say that the host hotel was so friendly and attentive. The Marriot @City Center went above and beyond. My suite was the most comfortable hotel room I have ever experienced. Definitely check it out if you are visiting Dallas.

Just wanted to say thank you to the entire Board of Triangle Blk Pride for a great time in Raleigh. I had an amazing weekend with so many amazing new friends. From the moment I checked in at the host hotel on that Friday, everything continued to impress me. The Crabtree Marriot had the most helpful and friendly staff of any hotel I have ever visited. There were some many beautiful men and women from all over. Everyone was so friendly and warm. The weekend was one of the most organized and planned prides I have ever attended. The highlights for me were the Jazz Brunch, The Expo and Pajama Party. I also enjoyed the downtime just conversing with everyone in the hospitality suite and in the lobby. My only criticism was that the Expo could have been much longer and that the weather on Saturday and Sunday took away from some of the scheduled outdoor events. I also missed the film festival and the writers workshop, but I heard great reviews. Raleigh is really on to something huge. Can not wait to see what next year brings.

I had an amazing time this weekend in Vegas for the DatBoi Ent Spring Fling. Parties were banging. Drinks were right. Strippers were tight. I attended a Mansion party and also the dance party at the Erotic Heritage Museum. I ran into some people from Cali that I had not seen in years. I also met so many interesting and cool dudes during the weekend. My homeboy threw a house party while I was in Vegas that was full of some great food and company. It was so cool hanging with my buddies and the people we met over the weekend. James, Stephon, Harry, Lee, and the rest of the crew made the weekend for me. Nothing but positive energy and laughs all weekend.

My highlight was the pool party that I hosted at the Blue Moon Resort, a popular gay resort in Vegas. I don't think they ever saw that many Men of Color take over that venue. There was so much eye candy. I was happy with the new swimsuit I selected for the event. I also sold alot of dvds. At The Top Of His Game: A Conversation with Ty Lattimore

(Ed. note: This interview has been edited slightly for clarity.)

It's hard to overestimate exactly how iconic gay porn star and movie producer Ty Lattimore is. But in a "mainstream" gay porn world catering towards and dominated by a mostly white audience, it's easy to forget that Lattimore is one of the biggest, most recognizable names in the Adult Entertainment Industry. Ty Lattimore began his career as a model before turning to the pages of such classic adult gay male men's magazines as Black Inches (where he was also a columnist for three years). From an interview in GBMNews.com:

I was a print model and a producer approached me in San Francisco. I realized that I enjoyed it. I know the politically correct thing is to say that I do it for the money. But that bullshit, I do it because I love it and I am great at it.

From there, Ty began an upward trajectory, appearing in productions with some of the top names in the business - All Worlds, Catalina, Vivid and Bacchus - before starting his own production company in 2004: Ty Lattimore Entertainment, the studio responsible for the hugely popular "Punch You In Yo Ass" series (through Ty's Throttle Media division)" and the "Just Fuck Dat Raw Ass" titles. His site - and his own personal philosophy - inspire him to pick a variety of men who, along with their various body types, ages, skin complexions and a host of other factors, give Ty Lattimore one of the most diverse stables of black men on the Internet.

Next month at the 2010 Blatino Oasis Awards in Palm Springs, California, Ty Lattimore will be accepting the award for 'Lifetime Achievement.' After several fits and starts, I was finally able to connect with Ty and we talked about a range of issues, not the least of which was the role black men have in today's gay porn industry.

MOC: Why did you first try gay porn? Had you been asked to perform in other types? Bi? Straight? Were you reluctant? Curious? Energized? Who were your first co-stars? Director? Video?

Ty Lattimore: My first video was called "Bachelor Party" for Brush Creek Media. It co-starred Austin Black and a few other models from the San Francisco area. I was definitely curious and very nervous.

MOC: When you began what sorts of roles were black men portraying in porn? What did you like/dislike about the porn you were watching?

TL: Men were portrayed in all sorts of roles just as today. I just was not into the thug or street hustler images. Back then I liked videos that showed men of color as regular dudes like the Nubian Knight and Black Forest films. Their videos were really hot...Ryan Block and Ty Jones were among my favorite porn stars.

MOC: What makes a good gay porn movie?

TL: Well, I think a good porn movie has a mixture of guys. They should not all look alike. There should some chemistry among the models...and it should include lots of penetration shots.

MOC: How is porn different or similar – if it even is – between productions on the West and the East coasts?

TL: I have mostly worked for West coast and East coast productions. Not much difference other than the types of models. Each region has a particular type of model. I enjoyed both. I would love to do more stuff on the West coast.

MOC: As a director, how do you make a scene hot?

TL: Well that's not really my job. My job is make sure the right people are cast and that everything is in place. But it's up to the models to make the scene hot.

MOC: Talk about your company. Why did you start it?

TL: I started my company because I was not seeing the types of movies that I wanted. I did not see enough diversity in body types and age range. I also did not see anyone consistently filming in Atlanta. I also got tired of waiting on gigs, so I decided to take what I had learned and apply it to my own ideas.

MOC: Why do you think black men are having such a difficult time being cast in white owned and operated studios and websites?

TL: I am not sure how to answer that one. I was fortunate to be able to work with some of the bigger studios as a model and cross over to different audiences. But not all black models get those opportunities and other do not want to work for those studios or even with white models. So I do not think there is an easy answer. Some of it is geography, some it could be racism, and some of it could just be the audience. Personally, I enjoyed working for small and big studios. My only concern was that with the bigger studios, I just found it odd that there was rarely a person of color behind the camera or on the crew anywhere.

MOC: What do you think when you see someone like Sean Cody or Corbin Fisher feature so few black models? Does this even bother you? What studios/sites do you think are doing a good job at variety in the models they select?

TL: I really do not know enough about Sean Cody or Corbin Fisher to have any opinion on them or how they run their business. I think each studio has to know his or her audience and what they want to see. Often producers and directors shoot what it is they want to see or what they personally like. I try to shoot a good range of ethnicity and body types and ages. Some folks had a problem with me shooting white models. I just try to find whom I think is best for the particular project that I am working on. I think the models on my site - TyLattimoreXXX.com - display the diversity that I strive for.

MOC: Is there racism in Gay Porn? If so, how does it manifest itself?

TL: There is definitely racism in porn just like all areas of life. Black models are not paid the same or afforded the same opportunities. That's just fact. I have yet to see any black models with any lube endorsements. Only a few have dildo replicas on themselves. Even looking at exclusive contracts. How many black models have exclusive contracts with the major studios? How often is a black model on the cover of the industry mags? Not often. Only a few of us such as J.C Carter, Kamrun, Flex Deon, Jeremy Tucker, Joe Simmons, Jack Simmons, Diesel [Washington], myself and a few others have been utilized by the bigger studios. Fortunately, a lot more Latino models are showing up all over the scene in major studios. But there still needs to be some more color....few Indian, Asian, or even biracial models.

MOC: What features do you have planned for release in 2010?

TL: Well I just released a new video called "Grad Dorm" this week. Next up is "Just Fuck Dat Raw Ass 3". I also have a few more fisting titles in the pipeline, from my Throttle Media studio, as well as some more raw/bareback releases.

MOC: Ty, why should someone watch your movies?

TL: Someone should watch my movies because they do not conform to the norm of what is sexy. You will never see any Ty Lattimore Entertainment videos with degrading titles. I strive to portray men with sensuality and as sexual beings without being stereotypical. My DVDs feature a range of black men. I have hairy, muscular, younger, older, tattoos, black, white, Indian and Latino. I also shoot condom, bareback, fisting, watersports, and more. Photoshoot with Ty and Dingo

On this past Saturday I had a photoshoot in Atlanta with new porn model King Dingo. The photographer was Seven. I have worked with Seven on another occasion and he took some great shots of me. I usually only shoot with other models when I am in a video with them. So this was a bit different. I had heard of Dingo, but had never met him. Dingo is new to the industry but has worked with several studios recently. Seven had a specific concept in mind. My mind did not know what to expect.

King Dingo was cool and easy to work with. Not to mention very sexy and tall!!!!Shoot started a little late, but we rocked it. Seven allows you to really get creative. I had quite a few ideas myself. King Dingo was professional and friendly. I can not wait for the images to be released.

Definitely have to work with him some more in the future. A new model with no ego and took direction well...that is so rare in this industry.

Thanks to all the bruthas that came out to the BlackOut parties this weekend in Columbia. Not sure why folks still sleep on Columbia, but I always have a great time there. You kats believe in southern hospitality. Friday night was off the meter as usual. I did get the feedback about the person I had assisting me. Sorry that he was not as friendly as I am. That issue has been removed. Saturday night was tight. I was getting worried since you all rolled in late....but it turned out to be a great party. Thanks for the support. We even made it without anyone pissing all on the bathroom floor. So I was happy.

Just wanted to send a shout out to all the Bruthas from Philly, Deleware and NJ that attended the BlackOut Party in Philly on Friday night. I had never had a party in the area but I was glad I did. Everyone was sexy and cool. Special shout to all the muscular/athletic kats that attended!!!! ! No drama and no issues. Even though a few folks flaked, the party was off the meter....I always prefer quality over quantity anyway. Philly definitely brought some quality. Glad the word spread out over A4A, but always know my party info is posted here before A4A or BGC. Thanks to Lawrence and Vic for getting the word out to the right folks.
Not sure when I will be back in the Philly area but catch our upcoming parties in Atl and Columbia(SC) and Charlotte.

Thanks to all the friends and fans that came out for my Spring Bling party and my VIP/Blackout party. My sexy host and co-promoter Dorae Saunders were on point and she really took care of us. Everyone in South Carolina was so friendly and happy to see us. My models and team really did an awesome job. Had a blast partying with you guys. You know we like to cause mayhem. Some folks came from TN, DC, VA, NC, GA, FL, and all over the country. We had so much fun meeting everyone in Columbia, SC. The show, the performers and D.J Ghost were amazing. Drinks were just right!!! Definitely will be planning some more events in Columbia and over cities soon....so stayed tuned......To the haters, esp the whack ass, punk, jealous club promoter in Columbia who thinks he is the bomb ....most of all thank you.
